CHART OF THE DAY: The Death Of The Music Industry.

So this post includes an chart that seems to show the death of the music industry. I wanted to link to it as I am a bit skeptical. If we consider that the CD was a music format change where the record industry convinced most people to go out and repurchase the music they already own on other formats then you’d expect to see a huge explosion of sales growth, right?

So if we look at the music sales from the 70′s it appears that the record industry is actually heading toward a return to normal consumer spending habits. It is certainly too early to tell, but looking at this chart it looks more like sales of the CD format have been an anomaly and music sales should be at a far lower rate moving forward.

It’s been a great year for me. I’ve been working on some really exciting new music, DJing at the Spex party has been lots of fun, and I’ve had the chance to meet, teach, and learn from so many incredibly talented people getting started with Ableton Live.

To celebrate the holidays and feed my growing addiction to Soundcloud.com I’ve decided to post a number of old unreleased tracks up on the site to for all to hear. Most if these are songs I love but they just never found there way into the projects I wanted to release. Many of them are a big sonic departure from what I’m usually working on. I had the chance to play some music and speak at a class on Performing with Ableton Live this week at Dubspot NYC. The Class was a lot of fun, I did some beatboxing and live looping. I showed a bit of my DJ setup and got the chance to meet some amazing people. Big thanks to DJ Kiva and the rest of the Dubspot crew. You are talented and awesome and I had a great time.

If you are in NYC this weekend don’t forget IMSTA FESTA on Saturday. I’ll be working with Ableton Live there all day.

Hopefully I can steal this APC40 back from my techno kitten and bring it down as well.
